Many websites and softwares provide free services and generate profit by collecting and selling users’ data. In fact users are paying for these services with their personal information. Zhiying’s research interest lies in users’ behaviour and preference in this type of exchange, where information plays the role of a currency. As a side project, she is currently studying the success factors of online social networks, in particular the interdependencies between participation variables and the network structure variables.
